MONROE, WIS.: The City of Monroe, Wisconsin, and surrounding Green County are looking at proposals to regulate any future data center projects and the availability of land.
Vandewalle & Associates of Madison, Wisconsin, is assisting the City with an outline of available policy options. The Vandewalle report said the City’s current policy options available include regulating or banning them outright through the zoning code; or taking the county’s approach of a enacting a moratorium on any data center proposals.
Vandewalle & Associates’ Planner Shannon Haydin suggested at the July 8 commission meeting that while a moratorium can be a temporary measure, it is not a long-term replacement for zoning and comprehensive land-use planning. She said that an effort should be made to update the City’s comprehensive land use plan with an eye on emerging and tech-driven development trends.
