Helping neighborhoods analyze opportunities and create plans that revitalize and attract new businesses

CLIENT/PARTNERS: Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), City of Milwaukee Dept. of City Development (DCD), Clarke Square Neighborhood Initiative (CSNI)

DATES: April – August 2019

NEED: The City of Milwaukee asked V&A to deliver an in-depth commercial market and land use analysis to support launch of LISC’s Brew City Match business accelerator and technical support program. The Brew City Match program helps neighborhoods analyze opportunities and create plans that accelerate and attract new businesses to revitalize those communities.

V&A ROLE: V&A’s role has included:

  • Lead consultant on GIS mapping and data analysis
  • Stakeholder interviews and roundtables
  • Neighborhood-level data and asset/opportunity analysis within two specific neighborhoods/planning areas in Milwaukee’s urban core
  • Compiling and synthesizing a variety of census, ESRI, City, and business data into user-friendly reports with a series of builder maps and key data points for use by key decision makers and the general public for future planning and business recruitment

KEY COMPONENTS: Two separate reports were created to date for the Fond du Lac & North Plan Area on the city’s northwest side, and the Clarke Square Neighborhood on the near south side.

RESULTS: Each highly graphic and user-friendly report includes a series of builder maps and key data points for use by key decision makers and the general public in follow-up planning efforts and pursuing new small-business investment in each target area.
