Waterloo celebrates 100-years of building John Deere tractors
Passionate John Deere fans and community members came together this weekend to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of John Deere building tractors in Waterloo.

FROM WCFCOURIER.COM: The $43 million 166-room hotel is located at 250 Westfield Ave. For decades, tractor manufacturing was concentrated there before Deere expanded to several facilities around Waterloo-Cedar Falls in the 1970s and early ’80s. Floors in the structure were raised above the original manufacturing floor to allow hotel patrons to take advantage of the picturesque views outside the now-restored windows. The walkway and bridge were built around 1974, according to City Engineer Eric Thorson. The walkway’s deteriorated conditions had been a point of criticism over the years, along with vandalism. That has changed. “There’s so much more activity downtown,” Thorson said “Downtown has really come back.”
