OREGON, WI (EXCERPTS FROM OREGON OBSERVER): Residents were invited to shape the future of the Village of Oregon as the process of updating its official comprehensive plan continues.
A comprehensive plan is a local government’s guide to a community’s overall growth that is updated every 10 years in accordance with Wisconsin’s 1999 “Smart Growth Legislation.” Oregon’s current version was adopted in 2004 and last updated in 2013.
One step of the bureaucratic journey, which will continue throughout the year until December, includes a Comprehensive Plan Public Visioning Workshop from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 9.
“March 9 is open to the entire community, an opportunity to come in… have a workshop… do some public visioning and address really big picture feedback on the comprehensive plan,” Consultant Sonja Kruesel said during a joint meeting between the Village Board and Planning Commission on Monday, Feb. 6.
Kruesel–who works for Vandewalle & Associates, the village’s urban planning partner–explained that a comprehensive plan can be broken up into nine main elements:
- Issues and opportunities
- Agricultural, natural and cultural resources
- Land use
- Transportation
- Utilities and community facilities
- Housing
- Economic Development
- Intergovernmental Cooperation
- Implementation
