Outdoor Ice Skating Opens in Monona

MONONA, WISC. – Outdoor ice skating in Monona has opened for the season at Grand Crossing Park, 800 W. Broadway. Residents and visitors can enjoy Dane County’s newest ice skating facilities, Monona Bank RiverRink, seven days a week including holidays through Sunday, March 6th. The city rents skates at the park for skaters without their own, and there is a fire pit surrounded by the park’s signature blue and white Adirondack chairs for onlookers and resting skaters.

Grand Crossing Park opened two years ago, after the City of Monona worked with Vandewalle & Associates to plan and design the urban pocket park and surrounding properties into a beautiful 8.5-acre space. Originally a blighted tract along the Yahara River including a brownfield site that needed remediation, the park became Monona’s largest redevelopment and a significant landmark. It includes the wildly popular Buck & Honey’s restaurant, additional restaurants, a cigar bar, offices, residential apartments, and the Avid Hotel.
