Created in 2013, the Washington County Site Redevelopment Program is the first County-led brownfield coalition in Wisconsin funded through a USEPA brownfields assessment grant. Vandewalle & Associates helped to create and manage the program, which allows these communities to identify and address blighted and contaminated former industrial sites throughout the County.
Communities participating in Washington County’s program include the City of Hartford, the City of West Bend, the City of Jackson, the City of Richfield, and the City of Slinger. The process evaluates sites for their potential, creates a plan for cleanup and redevelopment, and pursues funding sources including USEPA grants.
Two “success stories” from the Washington County Site Redevelopment Program are now taking shape. V&A is on the team for both projects, along with Stantec Inc., Washington County, and EDWC.
- The Rincon 225 Apartments project is a redevelopment in Hartland, Wisconsin. A video summary explains how the program helped to advance the project and why it has been so successful: https://youtu.be/ydTJ3scZV_M
- The Barton School Apartments project in West Bend is another Washington County Redevelopment Program project. This adaptive reuse of a former school created 40 units of much-needed, quality workforce housing: https://youtu.be/bV6z-MvI8eM
