Middleton’s Terrace Avenue project wins Engineering Achievement award

MIDDLETON, WI: Strand Associates put together a successful American Society of Civil Engineers award for Middleton’s Terrace Avenue project. The project was designed to create a strong accessible connection between two key sectors of the city — the Greenway Center Development area and the Downtown Business District. The engineering team worked closely with the City’s planning consultant, Vandewalle & Associates, Inc., and City staff to develop the theme for the corridor and take the project from concept design to final completion. The team partnered with the City, and Capital Brewery to design and construct a new multipurpose canopy shelter for future farmers’ markets, City activities, and brewery events. The project was funded by the City’s Tax Increment Financing District (TID) No. 3 and included a significant amount of coordination with adjacent property owners, including a new apartment development. The final project included numerous streetscape amenities and additional improvements outside of the scope of a typical street, with the aim of creating a project that would not only fix the obvious deficiencies of an aging street, but also build something that provides the City with a valuable redevelopment tool for years to come.
