Rifle, Colorado’s development and zoning plans arm the city to become a walkable community of choice

RIFLE, COLORADO: Rifle Colorado gets a favorable mention in a recent “On Common Grounds” post by Brad Broberg for the American Association of Realtors. The city is cited as being an example of a community with the appealing combination of affordable housing, historic downtown structures, and plans for growth including appropriate zoning designed to shape new walkable development. The article specifically cites Rifle’s mention in,”City Comforts,” a highly praised book detailing the characteristics of urban villages by Seattle broker and author David Sucher. (Editor’s note: Vandewalle & Associates worked with the city to develop the downtown plan and form-based code mentioned in the book.) Rifle is in good company. Other cities featured: Grand Rapids, Michigan; Salisbury, Maryland; and Redwood City, California. Read the full article.
