MILWAUKEE, WI. Local leaders in Milwaukee would like to see the Water Council achieve designation as a national center, similar to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. In July, Barrett and a delegation of private, public and academic officials visited Washington, D.C., successfully pitching Milwaukee as a “ regional water technology cluster.” The Water Council’s new Global Water Center, which celebrated it’s grand opening September 12, 2013, is angling to shoulder that mantle. The Global Water Center houses water-related research facilities for universities, existing water-related companies and accelerator space for new, emerging water-related companies. “We would love to ultimately be that national center,” Mayor Tom Barrett told the Milwaukee Business Journal.
