FLORIDA, N.Y. and AMSTERDAM, N.Y. — Leaders and the community in Montgomery County learned more from Canadian developers about a potential multi-phase casino development off exit 27 of the NY Throughway, which runs through the city of Amsterdam and town of Florida. The project received unanimous support from residents–many who are struggling to find their way in a post-manufacturing economy. The proposed casino project includes a 100 room hotel, food and beverage amenities, dining options, entertainment, and farmers market, as well as 300 or more residential units, two professional golf courses, and nature trails. The Fulton-Montgomery County area is ripe for this kind of economic game-changer, with an employment rate of 7%, the second highest in New York State. The new development would add 450 construction jobs and 850 permanent jobs.
