Root River Corridor Redevelopment Plan in Racine wins APA award

The Wisconsin Chapter of the American Planning Association has selected Racine’s “RootWorks”  to receive a 2013 Plan Award. The ambitious plan includes redevelopment and economic repositioning of the city of Racine’s urban riverfront, from Memorial Drive to the mouth of the River at the Lake Michigan shore. The Journal Times describes the plan as “mixed use development along the river, using sustainability through environmental design, historic preservation, live/work opportunities, entertainment venues, dining recreation, employment centers and city and regional connections.” The award was presented at the Association’s annual meeting in Sheboygan to the City of Racine and its partners: the Root River Council, Racine County Economic Development Corp., State Rep. Cory Mason, D-Racine, the River Alliance of Wisconsin, and Vandewalle & Associates Inc.
