Fitchburg announces Uptown, a new urban business district with direct connections to Downtown Madison

The City of Fitchburg, Wisconsin has announced an exciting new 450-are urban development — quite literally the largest piece of available undeveloped land in the area with direct connection to the State Capitol area of Downtown Madison. Located in the northeast corner of the Fitchburg Technology Neighborhood and just south of the Madison area’s Highway 12/18 Beltline, Uptown is expected to have a high density of mixed uses and a more urban flavor than Fitchburg’s other commercial and civic centers. Uptown, with its close proximity to Madison’s hopping downtown and right on Fitchburg’s new US Highway 14 and Lacy Road interchange, has the opportunity to leverage its accessibility as well as the high-tech business clusters and assets of the growing Fitchburg Technology Neighborhood, the Nine Springs E-way, and the City’s many bike trails. Uptown development will be governed by the City’s new SmartCode ordinance, which encourages mixed-use development, New Urbanist design and pedestrian- and bike-friendly neighborhoods.
